NSW Health and Safety Representative Training Refresher Program

The objective of this training program is to offer the skills and knowledge required to assist Health and Safety Representatives to fulfil their role for the purpose of promoting and ensuring the health and safety in the workplace.
Hunter Plant Operator Training School is a Safework NSW approved provider of this program which is compliant under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011
The role of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is primarily to liaise with other staff to identify health and safety issues and convey these to management. HSRs are elected by fellow staff to represent the views of the staff group.
This program is for Elected HSRs and elected Deputy HSRs, within the State jurisdiction of NSW, under the WHS Act 2011 who are ready to undertake a refresher program. The Program will refresh the information and skills attained under the initial 5 day training program and assist HSRs to carry out their role and functions under the WHS Legislation.
Prerequisites – Each participant must have already achieved training in the 5 day program. It is suggested that HSRs complete a refresher program every 12 months.
Learning Outcomes:
The key areas covered by this program include:
- Overview of the WHS legislative framework
- Duties of various parties
- Key WHS terminology
- The role of Safework NSW and penalties for non-compliance
- Requirements and mechanisms for consultation in the workplace
- The role, entitlements and protections available for HSRs and Health and Safety Committees (HSCs)
- Resolving workplace health and safety issues through negotiation and conflict resolution
- Identifying hazards and ways in which they can be eliminated or minimised
- Incident notification and investigation
- Issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and directing unsafe work to cease.
Upon successful completion of the Training Program
Learners will have been provided with the necessary information and skills that will assist them to carry out the role and function of an HSR in line with WHS legislation

Fees and Charges:
The program fee is $350 for the 1 day program. This fee includes Training and Assessment and Program material costs.
