New Rules for Telehandlers

New Rules Governing Telehandlers

Occupational Health and Safety Authorities in each State and Territory working as the National Certification Working Group made in 1994, and subsequently confirmed in 2004, a determination of the licensing requirement for operators of Multi-Purpose Non-Slewing Mobile Crane/Tool Carrier, commonly referred to as a Telehandler of greater than 3 tonnes capacity.That decision required operators to hold a licence, class CN for non-slewing mobile crane, only when the machine was fitted with a boom or jib and a hook block. SAFETY ALERTS

The following safety alert from WorkCover relates to recent accidents involving forklift truck operations. Since September 2009 all forklift operators need to hold a current High Risk Work Licence endorsed for class LF or be enrolled with, and under the supervision of, a registered training organisation (RTO). Licence holders also have an obligation to maintain the currency of their skills and knowledge as a condition of their licence. Many employers now run verification of competency (VOC) programmes periodically, to ensure this is happening.
